- After-hours events and members-only invites for in-store artist signings and performances, downstairs events and discounts for live concert tickets with partnering event venues, labels and promoters.
- Three membership fee tiers at $50 / $100 / $150 per month.

For now, we'd love to hear more from our loyal Words on Sounds readers for those interested (both locally and those who live across the country or abroad) before we launch to the masses. The above perks plus an exclusive early-adopter perk awaits you.

New This Week At The Shop

Hey there, hi, how's it going. Welcome to the newletter, coming to you deep from the heart of January. This week brings just a few big new releases but they are pretty big! We start with the unreleased MAC MILLER album 'Balloonerism', which comes out five years to the day since the release of his first posthumous album 'Circles'. 'Balloonerism' was recorded in the early 2010s, around the same time as his seminal mixtape 'Faces', and features a lot of great production and live studio work from Thundercat and his LA crew. This is an important missing piece of the Mac Miller puzzle, and contributes dearly to his catalog. In 2008, singer and producer SOLANGE was just starting to come into her own as a solo artist, boldly sidestepping the shadows cast by her sister (who is literally Beyonce). The result was her critically-acclaimed sophomore album 'Sol-angel & The Hadley St. Dreams', dripping with Pharrell production and that vintage late oughties poptimism. Kosovar diva DUA LIPA goes big on the new 'Live From The Royal Albert Hall', while tiktok country star JESSIE MURPH debuts with 'That Ain't No Man That's The Devil'. Honey I believe you.
We're starting to sense a theme here. If there is a holiday, there was probably a Peanuts special about it, which means there was also a soundtrack for it from the elusive VINCE GUARALDI. 'Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown' arrives on red wax this week, just in time to get your heart calibrated for the big day. Was there a 'It's Secretaries Day, Charlie Brown'? Fingers crossed. Speaking of hoping against hope, there was a SUN RA release we were supposed to have on Black Friday. It was the only release on the entire list that didn't show up. Not a single copy. Well, two months later, a half dozen copies have shaken loose from wherever they were hiding, allowing us to give 'Lights On A Satellite: Live At The Left Bank', a transcendent late 70s set from the grandfather of cosmic jazz, its own special day. We've also got a nice new Verve Acoustic Sounds Series release of the classic NINA SIMONE album 'In Concert', and the 1982 roots reggae must-have 'Wanted Dread And Alive' by PETER TOSH.
Last up, we've sourced the last available copies of a repress of MARK HOLLIS' only solo album after the dissolution of Talk Talk; it's a bit of a hidden gem in the limited Hollis discography. BJORK and ROSALIA have joined forces to release a potent new single called 'Oral', which features a remix by Olof Dreijer of the Knife. WEEN's bodacious alt-pop classic 'Chocolate and Cheese' is back in print, alongside a new record from the steady songwriter DAVID GRAY, called 'Dear Life'.
