Strictly Discs

November 22, 2023

RSD Black Friday - November 24, 2023

Strictly Discs will be the place to be this Post-Thanksgiving-Shopping-Melee-Day, also known as Black Friday.

And that's because certain indie stores across the country will be the place to get special releases created just for you, for giving and getting this holiday season, and they're scheduled for release on Black Friday, November 24, 2023.

Now, this is not Record Store Day, Jr., but it is brought to you by the powers-that-be at Record Store Day. This is a group of special releases you can only find at certain independent record stores nationwide. The magic of these pieces (many uber-limited) is that every one of them is something someone will really LOVE to get, and you'll really ENJOY giving. And you may have the added nice feeling of supporting a local, independently owned (Strictly Discs, Independently Owned since 1988) business during the holidays.

Here is Strictly Discs' plan for the day:

1. We OPEN at 9AM for RSD shopping
2. Line to form westbound on Monroe Street
3. While in line, you will be handed a menu of all RSD/BF titles
4. We will pull your requests & you will check out outside
5. The shop will open for normal browsing at approximately 10 (when the RSD line is gone)
6. RSD titles will be located upstairs

New This Week At The Shop

Welcome to the newsletter, one day early! As you know, tomorrow is Thanksgiving (if you didn't know that, there's still time to hit Woodmans), and Friday is BLACK FRIDAY, which compresses our week a little and leaves very little time for a lengthy message. This one will be very brief, but don't worry, we aren't mad at you! We'll be back next week with a regular edition. Just a few to tell you about this week: a super deluxe version of MAC MILLER's 'Watching Movies With the Sound Off' comes on galaxy colored vinyl with a bonus zoetrope style 10 inch. DEATH GRIPS oft-booted 'Government Plates' gets a legit pressing on clear vinyl. A pair of THREE SIX MAFIA classics are back in print: 'Mystic Styles' and 'The End', and we've got a 30th anniversary edition of SNOOP DOGG's classic 'Doggystyle', extended to a proper 2LP length so that you can hear "Da Shiznit" in proper fidelity.
Long out of print and frequently requested is JENNY LEWIS' gem with THE WATSON TWINS, 'Rabbit Fur Coat', which gets remastered for its 10th anniversary. JEWEL's lovely 'Spirit' gets a 25th anniversary reissue, plus we've got a new blue smoke vinyl pressing of SOCCER MOMMY's 'Color Theory', and a fresh one from wavey lofi homie DAY WAVE called 'Pastlife'.
Cosmic country guitar dealer DANIEL DONATO's records have only been available directly from him at shows, until now. We've got copies of his gorgeous latest album 'Reflector' in on clear blue wax. Texas indie fuzz kings AMERICAN ANALOG SET make a lovely surprise return with a new album called 'For Forever'. DEER TICK's classic 'War Elephant' gets a new edition with new cover art, and we've got ALL THEM WITCHES 'Sleeping Through The War' back in print on limited color wax and demos appended.
Majestic jazzy mood-man BILL EVANS' 'Sunday At The Village Vanguard' gets a splendid audiophile pressing, and we've got a new one from the vibey chillout jazz ensemble ROBOHANDS. Vaporwave producer AURAGRAPH turns towards trancy house on 'New Standard', and the compelling duo of LEA BERTUCCI and LAWRENCE ENGLISH offer up vast geological ambient on 'Chthonic'.
